Ojai Recovery works with private insurance and self-pay clients. How you're paying doesn't change the standard of care you receive here.
Once we've verified your benefits, we'll give you a written summary of your estimated out-of-pocket costs. You decide from there. There's no obligation and no pressure to admit.
If your plan doesn't cover the full cost of treatment, talk to our admissions team. Payment arrangements are available in some circumstances, and we'll be straight with you about what's possible in yours.
Ojai Recovery works with a wide range of health insurance carriers as an in-network provider, including:
As part of its broader investment in behavioral health, Aetna extends coverage to substance use disorder treatment. The majority of Aetna plans include addiction treatment benefits, although the specifics depend on the plan type and tier. Aetna generally treats addiction as a medical condition that warrants clinical care, consistent with federal mental health parity requirements.
Beacon Health Options manages behavioral health benefits for millions of members across the country, and that includes robust support for substance use disorder treatment. A wide range of Beacon plans cover the full continuum of addiction care—from medically supervised detox to residential rehab and outpatient programs.
Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage for medical detox generally includes intake assessments, physician oversight, nursing support, and any medications required to safely manage withdrawal symptoms. Covered detox length depends on the substance in question and the patient’s specific medical needs—our team handles all of the clinical documentation needed to justify coverage for the full appropriate duration.
Blue Shield of California insures millions of residents statewide, and most of its plans provide meaningful coverage for substance use disorder treatment. Members typically have access to benefits that span the entire care continuum, including medical detox, inpatient rehab, and outpatient services.
Cigna views substance use disorders as legitimate medical conditions deserving of clinical treatment. Nearly all Cigna plans include addiction treatment benefits, in line with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act—a federal law that requires insurers to cover behavioral health on terms comparable to medical and surgical care.
Humana treats substance use disorders as medical conditions that require professional care. Most Humana plans accordingly include addiction treatment benefits, consistent with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, which obligates insurers to provide behavioral health coverage on par with medical coverage.
Magellan Health administers behavioral health benefits for millions of members nationwide and offers strong coverage for substance use disorder care. Most Magellan plans include benefits across the addiction treatment spectrum, from medical detox through inpatient rehab and outpatient programs.
Tricare delivers comprehensive health benefits to active-duty service members, veterans, and military families, and that coverage extends to substance use disorder treatment. Tricare classifies addiction as a medical condition requiring professional intervention and covers multiple levels of care, including medical detox, inpatient rehab, and outpatient services.
Ojai Recovery is proud to accept UnitedHealthcare for our full slate of addiction treatment programs. We coordinate directly with UnitedHealthcare to help members get the most out of their benefits, reduce out-of-pocket costs, and access the complete range of services needed to support long-term recovery. Our in-network partnership with UnitedHealthcare helps make high-quality addiction care more attainable for those working to overcome substance use disorders.
Here’s a breakdown of what most US health insurance plans typically cover for addiction and mental health service categories.
Here’s a breakdown of what most US health insurance plans typically cover for addiction and mental health service categories:
Addiction Services
Thanks to the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), substance use disorder treatment is considered an essential health benefit. Most plans cover medical detox and withdrawal management, inpatient or residential rehabilitation, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), intensive outpatient programs (IOP), standard outpatient counseling and therapy, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) such as Suboxone or Vivitrol, and behavioral therapies like CBT and motivational interviewing.
Coverage levels vary significantly depending on whether the facility is in-network, and many plans require prior authorization, medical necessity documentation, or step-down compliance (meaning they may push for lower levels of care before approving residential treatment).
Mental Health Services
Most plans cover psychiatric evaluations and medication management, individual and group therapy, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, crisis intervention and emergency mental health care, and some telehealth/virtual therapy options. Trauma-focused care falls under these benefits — see what insurance pays for trauma treatment.
Again, the parity law requires that mental health benefits be no more restrictive than medical/surgical benefits, though enforcement is inconsistent in practice.
